I was 16 years old when I had my first fight and I will be 26 in April. Every time I decide to fight, there always comes a point where I question "why do I do this?" It is honestly the scariest feeling in the world. You know that on a certain day you are going to have to fight against someone who has trained to break you. Chances of injury are high and unavoidable. The truth is I don't know why I do this. It could be because I like the challenge, maybe I deal with frustration in the ring, or maybe I'm just crazy. However, I realize one thing and that is I wouldn't be a great instructor if not for my experiences in the ring. They make me mentally tough and teach me more and more about my art. The reason I can explain things to my students so effectively is because I have lived it. I know what is going to work and what won't. If you teach something and you've never applied it in a combative situation, that technique is purely theoretical. I have experienced pain, success, and every emotion in between. I have wisdom and I will keep fighting to further be a better teacher to all of you. This fight is by far my toughest test. I will be fighting in a higher weight class giving up weight and height to my opponents. Regardless of outcomes I'm giving it my all and coming out of the ring a better person. Thank you to my students for motivating me to keep going for the gold.

Would anyone be interested in getting a group together to watch UFC/boxing pay-per-view fights? I usually try to find a bar or restaurant to watch, but I'd be open to chipping in and watching it…Continue
